Don’t Confuse the Process with the Outcome

One of the phrases we hear often is, “Trust the process.”

And while there is wisdom in that statement, I have learned something else during this season:

Don’t confuse the process with the outcome.

If I am honest, I spent a lot of time trying to understand the process.

Analyzing every step.

Interpreting every change.

Reading into every delay.

Trying to determine what each turn meant and where it was leading.

I wanted answers.

I wanted clarity.

I wanted certainty.

I wanted to understand what was happening.

But somewhere along the way, I realized something important:

I had spent so much time trying to understand the process that I almost missed the fact that I was simply supposed to walk through it.

How often do we do that in life?

We analyze every conversation.

Every setback.

Every opportunity.

Every closed door.

Every delay.

Every unexpected turn.

We spend so much time trying to determine what everything means that we forget our responsibility is not always to understand it.

Sometimes, our responsibility is simply to keep moving.

To keep showing up.

To keep growing.

To keep taking the next step.

The truth is, many of us become frustrated because we assume the process should make sense while we are in it.

But life does not always work that way.

Some lessons can only be understood when looking backward.

Some answers only arrive after the journey has unfolded.

Some paths reveal themselves one step at a time.

This is often what purpose looks like.

Purpose rarely provides the entire roadmap.

Purpose does not always explain itself.

Purpose simply keeps calling you forward.

Even when the path is unclear.

Even when the timeline changes.

Even when the process takes unexpected turns.

Purpose has a way of pulling you toward what has been prepared for you—not because you understand every step, but because you continue walking.

And perhaps that is where many people become discouraged.

They become so focused on the process that they lose sight of the promise.

They assume that because the process changed, the outcome changed.

Because the timeline shifted, the opportunity disappeared.

Because things did not happen the way they expected, nothing is happening at all.

But what if the process is still unfolding?

What if your understanding is still developing?

What if what appears to be a delay is simply part of the journey?

What if the process is doing exactly what it was designed to do?

There is another lesson I have learned:

Not everyone will understand your journey.

Some people will spend their time trying to figure you out.

Trying to place you into categories.

Trying to fit you within expectations.

Trying to make your path resemble something they have seen before.

But purpose does not always fit familiar patterns.

Sometimes people struggle to understand your journey because they are viewing it through a framework that was never designed to hold the fullness of who you are becoming.

And that is okay.

Your responsibility is not to make everyone understand your journey.

Your responsibility is to remain faithful while walking it.

Sometimes the process begins to shift—not because you forced it, manipulated it, or demanded a particular result, but because you remained committed while it unfolded.

You showed up.

You kept learning.

You kept growing.

You kept becoming.

You refused to quit.

And sometimes the greatest revelation is realizing that your assignment was never to figure everything out.

Your assignment was to remain faithful, take the next step, and keep moving forward.

So, wherever you find yourself today, resist the temptation to analyze every detail of the journey.

Resist the urge to draw conclusions before the story has been written.

Resist the pressure to have all the answers.

Some things will make sense later.

Some things will reveal themselves in time.

Some things can only be understood after you have walked through them.

Until then, keep walking.

Keep growing.

Keep becoming.

Keep trusting God to lead you toward what He has prepared for you.

And above all, do not confuse the process with the outcome.

The process may be uncertain without the outcome being undone.

The route may change without the promise changing.

The timeline may shift without your purpose being canceled.

What you are walking through is not necessarily where you are going.

The process is still unfolding.

The story is not over.

And God has not forgotten you.
